National Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Hannah Bissiw, says she was attacked by some members believed to be pro-NPP vigilante group, Delta Force during the Ayawaso By-Election in Accra.
Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, “Badwam” Wednesday Dr Bissiw said not only was the NDC Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Gyata George, assaulted that day but she received her own share.
According to her, she had gone there to monitor the by-election as an agent but was attacked by the vigilante group.
She blamed the MP for Awutu Senya East, Madam Hawa Koomson, of masterminding the attack on her.
“I was at the polling station as early as 4:30 am and was even there with the NPP agent. These men I believe are Delta force members came at me. One of them even looked at me and said they were here to beat me because I’m loud on air and I keep insulting the NPP.
“I was forced to get up and move to another area and they followed me with some vehicles, pushed me and hit me. They attacked me. Sam George was not the only person attacked on that day,” she cried.
She said what happened at the Ayawaso By-Election was an eyesore which should be condemned.
Asked if she has reported the matter to the police, she explained that she has decided not to report her attack to the police because there was no need.
“I didn’t report to the police and decided not to because I released there was no need. People were injured and are still nursing their wounds, let’s think about how to solve the pressing issues” she said.
The three-member presidential commission of inquiry tasked with the responsibility to investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence starts public hearings from February 14, 2019.
The Commission has served notice it is “inviting the submission of relevant memoranda to aid” in its work.
