Transfer news: Tottenham to fight rivals for Steven N’Zonzi

Monchi – who is currently in charge of the Serie A club’s transfers – bought N’Zonzi along with him at the start of the season from Sevilla. Arsenal were linked with a move for the Frenchman after Unai Emery’s arrival in the summer. The pair also worked together at Sevilla and Emery was said to be keen on renewing their working relationship.

Should Monchi sign up to head Arsenal’s recruitment department, after the behind-the-scenes exits of Ivan Gazidis and Sven Mislintat, an Italian publication believe he will once again turn to N’Zonzi.

The 30-year-old has made only eight appearances for the Rome outfit and is thought to be open to a return to English football. N’Zonzi spent six years at Blackburn and Stoke in what was a largely successful spell in the Premier League. Tottenham are also named in reports as a team tracking N’Zonzi as they look to bolster their squad after having made no signings in the last two transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans took to Twitter on Tuesday night to vent their frustrations at the club for allowing Serge Gnabry leave the club. The Germany international made 18 appearances for the Gunners over a three year spell from 2012-15, scoring one goal. The winger, now at Bayern Munich, impressed for the German champions as they took on Liverpool in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash.

Gnabry played from the right and have Andy Robertson problems throughout at Anfield in the first half. And Arsenal fans were quick to take to social media to regret letting the 23-year-old leave the club.
