Chelsea boss Sarri is under pressure to turn things around at Stamford Bridge following a poor run of results. Within the last month, the Blues have suffered humiliating defeats to Manchester City and Bournemouth as well as crashing out the FA Cup to Manchester United.
Sarri hoped his early new year struggles would be aided with the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus. It is thought the Chelsea board were reluctant to bring in the 31-year-old but eventually caved into Sarri’s demands.
owever, it seems another new striker could be on their agenda if Sarri doesn’t last until the end of the season. According to reports, the Blues will pursue Icardi in the summer with the Milan forward’s future looking uncertain in Italy. They claim Chelsea, along with Real Madrid, Juventus and Napoli, have all made enquiries to the striker’s agent Wanda Nara.
But Chelsea will only look to activate Icardi’s €110m (£95m) release clause if owner Roman Abramovich sacks Sarri before the end of the campaign.
