Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will set incredible record if Manchester United avoid Liverpool FC defeat

Manchester United won’t need any added incentive to beat Liverpool in the EPL fixture this weekend. Not only can Ole’s side strengthen their grip on the top-four but they can also put a massive dent in the title hopes of their fierce rivals.

However, avoiding defeat this weekend would also see Solskjaer claim a Premier League record of his own. It is quite clear the Norwegian coach’s start to life at United has been special, but when you delve into the stats you realise just incredible it has been.

Since taking over from Jose Mourinho in December of last year Solskjaer has won 25 points in his nine Premier League games as United caretaker manager. Victory or a draw at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon would see him set a new record points total for a manager in their first 10 games in charge of a Premier League side.

Former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink currently holds the record after accumulating 25 points in his opening 10 matches as manager in 2009. The Dutch coach led his Chelsea side to eight wins with only defeat away at Tottenham and a goalless draw at home to Everton denting his own sensational spell as caretaker manager. Solskjaer began his reign as United manager with an emphatic 5-1 win away at Cardiff, before back-to-back home wins over Huddersfield and Bournemouth.

United then followed up the impressive start with wins at Newcastle and Tottenham, while a victory at home to Brighton came next before they dropped points for the first time in the league with a 2-2 draw at home to Burnley. Two more away wins at Leicester and Fulham have taken Solskjaer’s tally to a record-equalling 25 points, meaning a point this weekend would hand him the record
