Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed the club have stripped Granit Xhaka of the captaincy.

Emery in a recent interview said: “I have spoken to Granit and he is no longer one of the captains in the group. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now the permanent captain of Arsenal”.

The Gunners skipper was subbed off in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace and he responded angrily to the reaction from the fans.

Arsenal supporters ironically cheered when the Switzerland international’s number was called before he was replaced by Bukayo Saka.

Fans then began letting their frustration known and roundly booed Xhaka as he left the pitch, prompting him to cup his ears.

Per reports, he was then seen shouting “f*ck off” before taking off his shirt and storming down the tunnel.

Gunners supporters took to Twitter following the match, with many hitting out at the midfielder’s actions and calling for him to be stripped of the captaincy.

“I expect a statement confirming Xhaka has been stripped of the captaincy within the next 24 hours,” A fan tweeted.

While another added: “I fully expect a that he’s been stripped of the captaincy.

And a third said: “Emery should be sacked with immediate effect if I don’t see Xhaka been stripped of the captaincy.”
