Three female students from Ghana have been adjudged top performers of the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) gaining recognition for being the Overall Best Student, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the 2017 WASSCE respectively.
Out of about 1,880,666 candidates who wrote the examination, the 3 emerged the most excellent of them all.
Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland and Audrey Emefa Awuttey who are both former students of Holy Child Senior High School, were the Overall Best and first runner-up respectively while Rachel Amaning Kwarteng, a former student of Aburi Girls, scored the second runner-up position.
This increases the number of times a Ghanaian has won the Overall Best Candidate in the WASSCE, to six.
Two of the winners were also participants of the prestigious National Science Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
On the Facebook wall of the NSMQ, organizers of the educative national quiz celebrated the success of these young and brilliant ladies as they wrote,“we always enjoy sharing in the successes of our former contestants. Congratulations to these two amazing young ladies for this accomplishment! Well done ladies. The sky is definitely not your limit!”
The Overall Best Student, WASSCE 2017, Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland won $800, a full scholarship from Universal Merchant Bank, and a laptop.
First, runner-up, Audrey Emefa Awuttey awarded an amount of $600, GH¢15,000 from Bond Financial Services, and two laptops while Rachel Amaning Kwarteng, second runner-up won an amount of $500, GH¢5,000 from First Banc, and a laptop.
The three will also have access to free medical care for a year.
For the specific programmes category, Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland was the best General Science student. Hazel Asantewaa Kissi-Dankwa of Aburi Girl was the best Business student while Chris Delanyo Yao Ackotia of Achimota School was the best General Arts student.
