The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), the Commercial Workers Union (ICU) together with some drivers are marching through some streets of Accra to demonstrate their displeasure with what they describe as the “persistent increase in the price of petroleum products in the country.”
Though less than ten people could be counted at the Obra Spot at 7am, when the demonstration was scheduled to begin, several people later turned up and are currently taking part in the action.
They are expected to converge at the Accra Arts Centre where organisers will address the gathering.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service are with the demonstrators to guide them through the approved routes.
The group will later submit petitions to the Ministries of Finance and Energy, Parliament and the Office of the President.
