A member of late former vice president, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur’s family has disclosed that she tried to prevent him from venturing into politics.
Speaking to Joy News at the forecourt of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), where loved ones are filing past Amissah-Arthur’s body, Laura said she was scared when he informed her about getting into politics.
“I didn’t think he would get into politics. I was surprised and scared. Politics in Ghana is a lot of exposure and uncivilized people who will say all kind of things to get by and knowing who he was, I didn’t want that kind of attitude or reaction. I tried to stop him. I would have stopped him if I could. But he said it was something he was called to do”, she told Joy News‘ Mamavi.
Laura said after losing the 2016 elections, his desire for politics “ultimately” declined when he started spending time with his family.
Asked if she recalled any memory of Amissah-Arthur reconsidering to run again in 2020, Laura said: “Nothing that I saw, his priority was to get himself reacquainted with family if there was any thought of politics, it was way down the road”.
“It was a huge relief that he could spend time with his children and grandchildren and they were his priority. It was a relief”. she said.
