NPP denies attack on Highway workers

The Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulley Sambian, has denied the attack on some workers of the Ghana Highway Authority in the region.

“We wish to state in clear terms that no such acts of vandalism occurred at the regional office of Ghana Highway Authority or anywhere near the precincts of the said Authority. The story should therefore, be deservedly ignored,” he rebutted.

According to him, the party in the region had contacted both the Kandahar Boys – a vigilante group – and the Regional Manager of the Ghana Highway Authority, and they had all denied the report.

He cautioned the media to desist from negative reports against innocent and law-abiding groups of the party, especially the Kandahar Boys.

It was reported that the secretary to the director for Ghana Highways Authority in the region, Alberta Akorogo and some workers were attacked by a group believed to be affiliated to the New Patriotic Party.

Madam Akorogo was said to have been attacked and was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Some workers of the Ghana Highways Authority had to flee for fear of being attacked by the supposed NPP youth group.

It was alleged that the group stormed the premises of the Authority demanding to meet the director to register their displeasure over what they described as ‘unfair treatment’ meted out to some NPP contractors in the region.

Madam Alberta Akorogo, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said a strange man came to the facility and asked to meet with the director.

According to her, she told the man that her boss was out of town and would be back the following week and so the man left. A few minutes later, she claimed that the same man resurfaced with a group of young men shouting in front of the office building.

She indicated that the young men assaulted her and other workers while scattering some valuable materials.
